A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.
-Proverbs 15:4
I’ve been thinking a great deal about the words coming out of my mouth. Throughout the Bible we are told to be very careful of the way we speak and think. A gentle tongue can have healing power, OR it can break down the spirit. There is incredible power in our words. They can be used to give life or be used as a weapon of destruction.
I want to be a woman who uses my words to heal, restore, and uplift others and myself. I want to use my words to encourage and give life.
We all can refuse to allow evil things to come out of our mouths that tear people down. We all can build up, edify, lift up, and speak life to others. -Joyce Meyer, The Everyday Life Bible
I know there are often times when my words are negatively charged. In stressful moments with my daughters or my husband, I can use words that break them down and are hurtful. Often I do this before I even realize the impact those words will have on them. There are days I complain to others about the people and the situations I am frustrated with. I say “I’m just venting”, but in reality I’m speaking words of negativity and destruction.
Honestly, there are moments when I say words I shouldn’t.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.
-Proverbs 18:21
Proverbs 18:21 teaches us that we will eat the fruits of our tongue. If we speak negativity, we will get negativity in our life. If we speak positivity, we will get positivity in our lives. I want more positivity and blessings in my life. I want to speak positivity and blessings into other people’s lives as well.
The words we speak absolutely have the power to influence our lives and the lives of others!
I plan to live out these verses more intentionally in my life. I wonder if I’m alone, or if you also struggle to live out Proverbs 15:4 and Proverbs 18:21 on a daily basis? No one is perfect, but I know I can be better! How about you?
Let’s work to be more uplifting and encouraging!
Let’s work to heal and restore others!
Let our words be filled with life!
Let’s be the light, not the darkness!

Yes, I too want to speak more life, light, and blessings into this dark world! The Lord has been showing me in everything I read or listen to lately about the power of speaking up, speaking life, and confronting darkness with faith-filled, positive words. I want to make my habit to speak hope instead of negativity. Yours was one of the voices God is using to reenforce His message to me! Thanks for spreading His light! Blessings 😊
