I have a really bad habit. It is ugly and it is sinful. It speaks out against God’s word.
What is it you ask? I bet you’ve had moments when this bad habit sneaks up into your life too.
It is the habit of speaking negativity over myself. You know exactly what I mean. I am referring to the times when I say something about myself that I wouldn’t say about anyone else.
“I’m so dumb.”
“I’m a bad wife.”
“I’m a bad mother.”
“I’m not good enough.”
“I’m fat, I hate my body”
“I can’t do anything right.”
“I wish I were more like her.”
“I wish my life could be like that.”
“If only I had done this and not that.”
“Why did I even bother trying, I should have known I’d fail.”
“I will never be good enough, smart enough, or pretty enough, it’s no wonder people don’t like me.”
Right… maybe yours aren’t exactly the same, but I bet you can relate in one way or another.
I have been surrounded lately with sermons and articles that speak on the importance of life-giving words. As I sat and took notes I thought to myself, I am going to make 100% certain that when speaking to my daughters I only use life-giving words. I want to build them up and I want them to have a positive self-image. I want them to be confident young girls who grow into confident women with high self-esteems and who know and value their self-worth.
And then it hit me… I must know who I am first. The enemy loves to feed off my bad habit of self abusive destruction. He is constantly working to tell me lies about myself, in order to discredit the truths God has already established. By speaking negative connotations over myself and my life I’m setting a poor example for my daughters, and creating a mind-set of negativity and doubt for myself. Perfect soil for the enemy to sow into, he doesn’t what me to remember who God made me to be, he wants me to believe the things above so he can easily steal, kill, and destroy my happiness, joy, confidence, and everything else good God has for me.
So I set out on a mission over this past week to write down truths from the Bible in I AM statements. In moments that the above thoughts start to fill my mind, I will speak God’s truth out loud for the enemy to hear. Pushing out doubt, fear, regret, defeat, anxiety, and depression. I will speak out positivity and improve the way I think about myself.

This isn’t to say I don’t need change in certain area’s or that improvement is unnecessary. We should all strive to be more like Christ each day. BUT this is to say that I need to be confident in who I am, because I know my Father, and He does not make mistakes. Nothing about you my darling friend is a mistake, you are fearfully and wonderfully made. You are beautiful, and through Christ you can be everything you want to be.
Every time I say something derogatory about myself I am going directly against the word of God and agreeing with the lies of the enemy. God want’s me to love myself, so I can love others. In order to do that I must speak positivity over my own life, and you do too.
I must love myself in order to love others.
I can not fill others with positivity and love, if I’ve filled myself with the opposite.
I can not give what I do not have.
The thoughts we think and speak are so important and have a direct impact on the way we live our lives and the relationships we have with others.
Use these 22 I AM Statements to speak positive truths over yourself and improve the way you think about yourself daily.
I plan to visit these I AM statements often, repeating them to myself over and over again until they’ve sunk into my mind and soul. I will start speaking them over my daughters lives and teaching them to speak them as well, so we can rebuke the enemies lies that he will try to feed them as they grow.
My darling friend can you relate to any of this? Or know someone who can? Do you have your own I AM statement? If you do I’d love for you to share it in the comments below!
